Renewable Energy in Iceland - Summer 2010
Program Description
The goal of this program is to introduce students to renewable energy resources with particular emphasis on geothermal and hydropower energy. Iceland can serve as a model for the world in obtaining energy from renewable sources. Iceland already gets more than 80% of its total energy consumption from renewable sources and almost 100% of electrical production and heating, for industry and households, comes from renewable energy sources with zero carbon emission. This program will familiarize students with these critical issues by visiting some of the most advanced industries and research institutes in the field of renewable energy in Iceland.
Housing
Students will be housed in single private rooms at Keilir (School of Energy and Technology), Keflavik. The dorms have their own laundry facilities, gym, and entertainment room (pool tables and TV). At Keilir an indoor swimming pool and basket-ball stadium are also available for students. There are restaurants (pizza, hamburgers, hot dogs etc.) and a supermarket at Keilir. Keilir is connected to Keflavik and Reykjavik by very efficient and safe public transportation.
