Teaching English in Korea -
Summer 2010
Program Description
Kennesaw State University has partnered with Seongdong-gu (SD) to provide KSU students the opportunity to participate in the volunteer program, Teaching English in Korea. Students will be teaching English in the elementary, middle and secondary schools in Seongdong-gu and the community of SD, a county in metro Seoul city in Korea. Seongdong-gu is one of the 25 gu which make up the city of Seoul, South Korea. It is situated on the north bank of the Han River. Seoul is the city capital of South Korea. Students will enjoy the beauty and culture of South Korea and participate in language and cultural experiences provided by the government of Seongdong-gu. Tour excursions of Korea are arranged for participating students.
Housing
Students will live with host families.

Program Cost
There is a fee through International Programs and Services for insurance, approximately $60. Seongdong-gu will provide round-trip airline tickets and home-stay room and board for up to 10 qualified KSU students who will be English instructors in Korea. For qualifying students, the cost for this program is tuition for credit course hours arranged through the Department of Inclusive Education.
Courses
With prior approval, students in the TESOL, M.Ed. or MAT programs may use the international experience as a substitute for INED 7781 (Cultural Issues for ESOL Teachers) or a guided elective.

Faculty Background:
Dr. Bryan has coordinated the Teaching English in Korea program for three years and has visited in the elementary and middle school classrooms in Seongdong-gu. She participated in the Bahrom International program at Seoul Women’s University, Seoul, Korea, Summer 2009.
