Undergraduate Business Study Tour
Maymester 2008
Program Description
Would you like to travel to Spain and Portugal? Would you like to
earn six-hours of credit while learning about the business and
culture of these countries? Then join us during Maymester 2008
as we travel through the Iberian Peninsula.
Few places in Europe can match Spain and Portugal for their
tourist industry and retail savvy. The beauty and cultural wealth
of the Iberian lands takes us from a remote past of Christian,
Jewish and Moorish tradition to a European present. As member
states of the European Union, Spain and Portugal both prosper
as vacation hubs and places to learn about how cultures meet
and interact.
Our journey to Iberia will happen in two parts. First, we will visit
Madrid, the political and cultural capital of Spain, soaking in
Spanish culture and experiencing first hand Spanish business
practices. Here, a stroll down the Gran Vía or a visit to the Palacio
Real or spending time in the Prado Museum takes us to the heart
of Spanish business and culture. Then we will move to Toledo,
heart of the Spanish tradition of sword making and a mecca of
the tourist industry. During the second part of our expedition, we
will journey to Lisbon, capital and cultural center of Portugal, listening
to Fado as we calmly walk down the streets of the Alfama
and the Chiado. Finally, we end our journey in Albufeira, a tourist
haven in the south coast of Portugal.
