Program Description
Located in the high desert of the Andes Mountains, you will live among and work with a community of weavers who have practiced their unique craft since the Incan Conquest. The purpose of this project is to work with the artisans to increase their economic independence and to improve the community’s quality of life. Also, you will work side-by-side with members of the community to complete specific projects. For example, a previous student group built a corral for the llamas to live and painted an elementary school building. The culture and environment of Seclantas, Argentina is like no other experienced by most students. Many students have formed lasting relationships across many miles and between different ways of life. As we visit interesting and informative sites in the surrounding area, you will appreciate, even more, this special place. After leaving Seclantas, we will spend time exploring Salta, the capitol of the province. We will spend our last two days in the sophisticated city of Buenos Aires and experience the unique Argentine Tango. Previous students have said “the trip was the experience of a lifetime”.
