  Land of the Maya:
Belize and Guatemala
   

 

Program Description
Are you fascinated by the past and desire to learn about it? Travel to Belize and Guatemala in Central America and study the archeology and history of the Maya.  Explore the Maya sites of Caracol, Lamanai, and Tikal. An educational adventure traveling by local buses, boats and small airplanes.  Students will see Maya ruins, caves, rainforests and Caribbean beaches. Program directed by Latin American Specialist with nearly 20 years of travel and research experience in Belize.

Program Cost
The cost of the program is $1735 (exclusive of tuition), which includes roundtrip airfare, lodging and most meals, program-related excursions, most ground transportation and insurance.
A $300 deposit is due at the time of application.
The remaining balance of $1,435.00 is due January 9, 2009.

Housing
Students will stay in double rooms at hotels.

 

 

Course
All participants will take the following 3 CR HR course:
Land of the Maya: This course focuses on the ancient and contemporary Maya peoples that have inhabited the eastern lowlands for 3,500 years.

Students will receive credit for one of the following:
ANTH 4400, ANTH 4421, ANTH 4490 OR HIST 3366

Faculty Background
Dr. Terry Powis has spent the past 19 summers in Belize, for travel and research. He has traveled widely in Central America, especially in Mexico and Guatemala. Dr. Powis has taught archaeological field school courses to undergraduate students in Belize since 1991.
