James Pruitt

James Pruitt, Atlanta native, is a choreographer whose style of dance is a harmonious blend of contemporary ballet and modern vocabulary. He began his dance education at the Dance Centre in Atlanta under Colby Richardson, and continued his studies at the Atlanta Ballet before becoming a full company member for seven years under the artistic direction of John McFall. It was while dancing for the Atlanta Ballet, that James recognized his growing connection to the choreographic process.
James has recently taken on an eclectic variation of ventures with the goal of building a wide spectrum of dance knowledge and technique as a choreographer. His inspiration is derived from a consciousness and desire to express his true identity through movement.
Atlanta Ballet projects include Devant le Masque, Dance Bach, Holism and Stuck. James created a ballet to the live music of recording artist OURS. He has choreographed two highly successful runway shows for Atlanta-based, Pecan Pie Couture, and choreographed two works for the Atlanta-based Hent Project. Most recently, Pruitt was recognized for most original choreography through American Dance Project where his solo received the platinum award.
