Min Kim
Assistant Professor of Dance
Min Kim is an interdisciplinary performer and choreographer committed to working in a variety of dance forms. She joined the KSU faculty in 2009 after eleven years of teaching at various institutions in the U.S. and her native Korea. Prior to coming to Georgia, she was on the faculty at Arizona State University where she taught dance courses in theory and technique. She teaches dance history, choreography, dance appreciation, and technique at KSU.
An active dancer and choreographer, Kim has worked with numerous dance companies and institutions both in the U.S. and Korea. Beginning her training in classical ballet and Korean dance, she has performed classical and contemporary ballet repertory as well as Asian dance forms. She has recently worked with contemporary dance companies in the Phoenix area, developing work that blends her training to create a unique movement vocabulary. As a choreographer, Kim brings a broad array of experience and perspectives to her work, combining Western contemporary movement, Eastern aesthetics and media-based work. She has received awards for her choreography from the Maricopa Center for Learning and Instruction, Arizona State University, and The Samsung Cultural Center in Korea. She travels nationally and internationally and choreographs for professional companies and university programs. Her recent rsearch interests include interdisciplinary performance, dance video/film, and East Asian dance during the Japanese colonial period.
Kim received her M.F.A. in Dance from Arizona State University and her M.A. and B.A. in Dance from Sookmyung Women’s University in Seoul, Korea. She is artistic director of the contemporary dance group, DORIDance.
