Rommie Stalnaker
Instructor of Dance
Rommie Stalnaker obtained her BFA in Dance Performance from Brenau University in 2008, graduating Summa Cum Laude. Trained in the US and abroad, Ms. Stalnaker has studied a number of concert and folk dance techniques: Jazz (Fosse, Giordano, and Dunham’s West-African/Jazz fusion); Ballet (Vaganova, Checcetti, RAD); Modern (Horton, Graham, Humphrey/Limon); Flamenco. Ms. Stalnaker has trained under Robert Barnett, Maniya Barredo, Carl Ratcliff, Nicolas Pacana, Dennis Nahat, Ana Marie Forsythe, Laura Alonso, Garth Fagan, Denise Jefferson, Alyssa Maddox, Mark Morris, and David Parsons.
Ms. Stalnaker has performed in everything from The Nutcracker to Donald Byrd’s Drastic Cuts. At seventeen, she joined the Cleveland San Jose Ballet Company in Ohio, working with Dennis Nahat and Christopher Tabor. After starting a family with her husband, Corey, Stalnaker moved to New York City to study at the Alvin Ailey School. She was later accepted into Washington Reflections Dance Company, where she danced for choreographers Michael Blake (from Donald Byrd’s company), Ray Tadio, Francisco Gella, Thaddeus Davis, and two-time Tony Award winner Hinton Battle. She has performed in New York (Dance Theatre Workshop, Riverside Church, and APAP); Washington, DC (Kennedy Center, Lincoln Theatre, and the Dance Place); and in the Dominican Republic with their National Ballet Company. Her final performance with Washington Reflections was in Massachusetts at Jacob’s Pillow.
