Georgia Dance Conservatory

South Indian Kilarippayattu Performance

October 6, 9:30- 10:45 am

Touring artists from India will present a performance/ master class of kilarippayattu, a traditional marshal art form that serves as the basis for the Indian classical dance form, Kathakali.

Korean Dance Celebration

October 14, 2009

12:30 p.m. Legacy Gazebo

Dancers from the KSU Dance Company will present traditional Korean dances as part of the "Year of Korea Day" sponsored by the Institute for Global Initiatives.  Under the direction of Prof. Min Kim, performances will include the traditional dances of Taepyeongmu and Korean Circle Dance.  The performance is free to the KSU community, and will also feature a Gayageum (musical instrument) performance, and a Tae Kwon Do performance.

The Program in Dance produces two annual main stage dance concerts featuring the KSU Dance Company. The fall concert features choreography by faculty and guest artists, and showcases innovative choreography, packed with energy, virtuosity and dynamic movement. The work promises to be eclectic and creative, as the dancers transform the stage space to bring thought provoking contemporary works to the KSU stage. This concert will feature work by internationally known choreographer and KSU guest artist Lauri Stallings.

American College Dance Festival

March 6-9, 2010

Middle Tennessee State University

The KSU Dance Company performs annually at the ACDF.  For the past three years, the company has been selected to perform at the festival gala concert showcasing the strongest works from the southeast. In 2008, the KSU Dance Company received top honors at the regional festival held at the University of Florida and was invited to perform at the national festival in NYC. "Incubus," choreographed by Ivan Pulinkala with scenery designed by Ming Chen, was among the 29 works selected out of a national pool of 430 for the national festival held at the Miller Theatre at Columbia University.

In March 2010, the KSU Dance Company will perform at the American College Dance Festival at Middle Tennessee State University. 

SYNERGY 2010

March 29, 2010 11 a.m.- 12:30 p.m.

Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center

Atlanta area school students will experience a truly comprehensive art experience featuring DANCE, MUSIC, THEATRE and the VISUAL ARTS, as the ArtsBridge program brings together artists from Kennesaw State University in a collaborative performance at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center. The performance will feature the KSU Dance Company, the KSU Orchestra and the KSU Tellers performing on Atlanta's premier professional stage.  Students will have the opportunity to interact with the performers at a talkback following the performance, as well as experience a visual arts exhibition in the lobby.  The event is geared towards student outreach and learning, and is organized by the Program in Dance in collaboration with the CEPAC ArtsBridge Program.

Jazz on Tap & Ballet Fest

Bailey Center Orchestra Concert

April 20, 2010 at 8 p.m.

The KSU Dance Company will perform at the Bobby Bailey Performance Center along with the KSU Orchestra in a unique collaborative concert featuring choreography by assistant professor of dance, Min Kim.

Student Dance Concert

April 23 & 24, 2010 at 8 p.m.

Stillwell Theater

An evening of innovative senior choreography projects performed by the KSU Dance Company.  This concert will celebrate the artistic and choreographic excellence achieved by the graduating class of the program in dance. 

Tickets for this concert will be available at the door one hour prior to each performance, or in advance at the Program in Dance Office: Office Annex Building, Room 111.

Dance Company Outreach Program

The mission of the KSU Dance Company Outreach Program is to educate high school students about concert dance through performance and practical experience. Every year, the KSU Dance Company visits a number of local high schools, performing and sharing the experience of concert dance with students. Through personal interaction, students have the ability to discover the creativity of dance and gain an understanding of the demands and scope of a career in dance.
