Message from the Director of the Dance Program Ivan Pulinkala

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the dance minor program in the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies at Kennesaw State University. The flexible nature of this academic and performance program in dance is geared towards providing students the opportunity to receive a well-rounded dance education at the undergraduate level. Through a variety of academic and practical experiences, this minor aims at preparing students physically and intellectually for the professional world of dance. Students have the opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills they need to pursue dance at a graduate level.

Classes are offered in ballet, modern, musical theatre dance forms, jazz, choreography, dance history, kinesiology, performance, tap and ethnic dance. Through the KSU Dance Company, students have the ability to audition and work at a pre-professional level of performance and artistry. Guest choreographers and masterclasses compliment our program, and expose students to professionals in the field. Students also have the opportunity to audition for musical theatre productions and gain practical experience in stage and theatre management, as well as scenic and costume design.

The Department of Theatre and Performance Studies opened a state-of-the-art dance studio in January 2006. This new facility is equipped with an AV system, double-sprung floor and international quality dance flooring. In addition to the 35' x 56' studio floor, the studio has a seating capacity of approximately 100.

The Atlanta area provides a rich variety of dance and cultural opportunities. It is our goal to actively serve and be a part of our community, providing our students opportunities both on campus and within the community. It will be my pleasure to personally provide you with any other information about our programs in the department, and to best serve your dance needs.

Thank you for your interest in the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies. We are committed to serving our student needs through the highest standards of education, as well as enriching our community through our art and performance.
