KSU Tellers

The KSU Tellers :

The Kennesaw State University Tellers is an undergraduate storytelling troupe sponsored by the Department of Theatre, Performance Studies and Dance.

The Mission Statement:

  • engage in performance as a creative art and as a mode of inquiry;
  • serve as a supportive community of artists for our members to develop practical performance skills while exploring the theoretical motives for art;
  • serve as ambassadors for the Program in Theatre and Performance Studies;
  • serve Kennesaw State University by providing educational and entertaining performances on campus;
  • serve the community through educational outreach, charitable service, and unique entertainment.

What We Do:

The KSU Tellers accomplish their mission by three goals. First, each member develops a repertoire of diverse performances appropriate to a variety of audiences and occasions. Original personal narratives, poetry, traditional folktales, and classic fairytales are among the many kinds of texts we perform.  Our performance work often results in paid public events that raise funds for the troupe’s projects. Second, we create and present a series of student-driven projects to showcase our performers. Third, our members engage in professional development opportunities. Each year we travel to the Patti Pace Performance Festival and the National Storytelling Festival to hone our craft, to meet undergraduate and graduate students from other university programs, and to network with established independent artists.

How to Join:

Membership in the KSU Tellers requires an audition and successful completion of TPS 1600 Introduction to Performance Studies.  Auditions are held in the beginning of the Fall Semester. If you are cast you must resister for TPS 4010 Storytelling Practicum. This is a two credit hour course that may be repeated for up to six hours.
