Starbucks has a special connection to Moby-Dick. As the story goes, Moby-Dick was the founder's favorite book. After a new CEO came onboard, he thought the name of the company should reflect the founder's appreciation for Moby-Dick. After trying a few character names and variations, including Pequod and Starbo, Starbucks became the coffee chain's new name.
