Home Educated Students

Home Educated: A home educated student graduated from a non-accredited high school or independent educational program that is supervised by a parent or tutor and has not earned 30 semester hours or 50 quarter hours of college credit that will transfer to Kennesaw State University.

Steps to Apply:

  1. Submit an application to Kennesaw State University Online at This requires completing the application and submitting with a $40 application fee payable by debit or credit card.
  2. Submit your official SAT or ACT scores sent directly from the testing agency, either Collegeboard or
  3. Submit your official high school transcript. If you are home educated, you will need to include your transcript as a part of the Home Educated Applicant Portfolio. Complete all sections of the portfolio to  be submitted either in person or mailed. All documents in the portfolio become the property of Kennesaw State University. Please do not submit personal achievement awards or pictures that you would want returned.
  4. Follow the status of your application through the application status check. Please allow ample time for receipt and processing of all documents. Processing time varies based on number of applicants and time of year. If you see that the admission decision states you must take the COMPASS Exam, sign up through Owl Express, and an admission decision will be made based on the results on the exam.

Admissions Requirements

  • Graduate from regionally accredited high school or home education program recognized by Kennesaw State University.
  • Complete the College Preparatory Coursework in the following areas: 4 years of English, 4 years of Mathematics, 4 years of Natural Sciences, 3 years of Social Science and 2 years of Foreign Languages in the same language.   • Satisfactory scores on SAT or ACT. Per the policy of the University System of Georgia Board of Regents, Home Educated students must take the SAT I or the ACT and meet the minimum total score of the average combined score of the preceding year’s enrolled Freshman class.
  • The current standard is a combined Critical Reading and Math SAT score of 1090 or ACT Composite score of 24.
    Minimum subsection scores: SAT Critical Reading 450 and SAT Math 450 and ACT English 18 and Math 18 for full standing freshman admission
  • Academic grade point average minimum of 2.5 as calculated by Kennesaw State University, using only the College Preparatory Coursework. This GPA is calculated using a 4 point scale. AP and IB classes are not weighted differently.

Admission to Kennesaw State University is a selective process. Meeting the application deadline or minimum standards does not guarantee acceptance. It is the responsibility of the applicant to review the admission standards and deadlines in advance to understand the likelihood of eligibility.

Kennesaw State University will not honor GED scores from students who have been out of high school for less than five years from the date of scheduled graduation. Students with a GED who are less than 23 years of age should attend a two year or private college and qualify as a transfer. However, students may be considered for admission with a GED if they have been out of high school for more than five years and apply as a non-traditional student.
