A reporter used to be the sole account for an event as it took place in real time, but that is no longer the case. Thanks to the development and evolution of the internet, social networks, and technology in general, sharing a first-hand perspective of events as they unfold is now as easy as sending a text message. As technology provides opportunities for those connected to contribute to the idea economy, traditional avenues and conceptions of engagement with our public officials, investment in our government, and advocacy continue to evolve.
An initiative of the American Democracy Project within the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, eCitizenship strives “to prepare students for knowledgeable and effective citizenship in the digital age.” Embedded within conversations around digital and social media, democracy, technology, and politics, eCitizenship explores the way that technology impacts and continues to evolve what it means to be a citizen.
