Nice Daze and Disco Nights: The Social History & Popular Culture of the 1970s

Description:
As one of the most turbulent decades in American History, the 1970s also have an enduring legacy in the collective imagination of all Americans. Beyond the stereotypes—the leisure suits, the shag carpets, and the hair—the ‘70s represent an important period of social transition. This CLASS will consider the lows and highs of a decade that furthered the concept of the American dream even as Watergate and Vietnam threatened that dream. We'll study the lasting popularity of ‘70s media—especially music, film, and television—as well as the influence the decade had upon our understanding of race, war, technology, and government.
