| Students Speak During my first semester at KSU, I took part in the “Fantastic Voyage: A Journey into the Human Mind” learning community which consisted of English 1101, KSU 1101, and Psychology 2201. I had an amazing time because I was in three classes with the same people. I didn’t know anyone at the start of my freshman year, but having the same classes with the same people helped me make new friends even more quickly. Over the course of the semester, we got to know each other pretty well, and I learned that two of my classmates lived on the same floor as I did in the Village. I am still very close with several of them including the two that live on my floor. The community also helps you to adjust to what college life is like and makes the transition from high school even easier. I would definitely recommend CLASS to any upcoming freshman. Tyler Crafton
I chose to live on campus during my first year, and Kennesaw requires that incoming freshman living on campus participate in a learning community, which I immediately labeled as a ridiculous requirement. I begrudgingly enrolled in a learning community entitled “Murder and Mayhem in the Old West,” and I’ve never regretted it once. The experience was once in a lifetime. The opportunities proffered and the knowledge gained in that first semester alone was well worth the effort. I met new people, made new friends, and had my first taste of the excellent professors that teach at KSU. I learned wonderful little factoids and some of the more pronounced history about the school I was attending during each lesson. Each day I learned something completely new. The nicest feature about a learning community is that it bundles a few classes so that a student can see the same faces more than twice a week, that way freshman can ease into the unfamiliar waters of larger classes and seeing different people each day, every semester. My favorite experience from my particular learning community was attending the Stone Mountain Pow Wow and Indian Festival, which gave me a new awareness of an unknown culture and lifestyle. One of many new insights my learning community provided. My learning community gave me experiences I wouldn’t have otherwise had if I had never enrolled. I strongly encourage any incoming freshman to take part in a learning community of his own choosing and to take advantage of the wonderful experiences made available to him. Alicia Ward
