KSU 1101/49 Hip Hop
From its humble roots in New York City, Hip Hop has transcended borders and cultures and is a central piece of American popular culture. If you are a newjack or aficionado, this course has something for everyone. It examines the elements of Djing, emceeing, breakin, entrepreneurship, and philosophy. We also examine distortions and static. That is, spaces where contested dialogues and controversy exist. The definitive function of this intellectual sojourn is to examine the function of creative art as civic engagement and music as a mirror of social values. . . while we keep it real!
