GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF A
TRADITIONAL HONORS CONTRACT
ESTABLISHED IN A NON-HONORS COURSE
(To Satisfy Honors Experience I or III)

An Honors contract established in a non-Honors course (as a means of satisfying the traditional course work requirement in the Honors curriculum) should

  • require the Honors student to do significantly more intensive and more challenging work than that required of non-Honors students in the class

  • require the student to meet with his or her professor on a regular basis to discuss special readings and other assignments related to his or her Honors work

  • require a substantive product at the end of the semester (a research paper or formal presentation, for example) that documents the student's Honors work and that can be included in some form in his or her Honors portfolio.

  • allow the student to substitute his or her Honors project for some other requirement in the course.
