FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
DURING ADVISING FOR SPRING SEMESTER
Q: I am afraid I am not doing well in one of my Fall classes. Should I withdraw from it?
A: If you need this class to meet high school graduation requirements, you will need to contact your high school counselor immediately to discuss your options for fulfilling the graduation requirement. If you do not need the course OR the credits for graduation, you may wish to drop it to avoid damaging your HOPE eligibility. The last day to withdraw from a class without academic penalty (receiving an F in the class) is Thursday, October 11th. You must notify Dr. Kinnick and your counselor and then withdraw by completing a form at the Registrar’s office before October 11th.
Q: If I did not take an Honors section of English 1101 or Political Science 1101 in the fall, can I register for an Honors section of English 1102 or Economics 1100 in the Spring?
A: YES. All JEHP students are eligible for honors sections either semester.
Q: What grade do I need to make in MATH 1113 in order to take MATH 1190 in the Spring?
A: You must make a grade of B or better in MATH 1113 in order to take MATH 1190-Caculus. You may register for MATH 1190 during Priority Registration, but you will be required to drop MATH 1190 if you earn a grade lower than B in MATH 1113.
Q: What grade do I need to make in ENGL 1101 to take ENGL 1102 in the Spring?
A: You must make a grade of C or better in ENGL 1101 in order to take ENGL 1102 during the spring semester. You may register for ENGL 1102 during Priority Registration, but you will be required to drop ENGL 1102 if you earn a grade lower than C in ENGL 1101.
Q: I have signed up for the KSU classes that I need to graduate from high school. Can I take additional KSU courses as well?
A: YES. Accel will pay for these courses if your guidance counselor approves them on Part II of the Accel form. You must choose courses from the Accel-approved course descriptions listed in the Course Selection and Accel Funding book that you received at your first advising session. If you choose a course that is not on the Accel-approved list, you will be responsible for paying the tuition for that course.
Q: I am worried I am not making B’s in my current classes. Can I lose my HOPE scholarship?
A: Students’ transcripts are not evaluated for continued HOPE eligibility until the student has completed 30 credit hours of coursework. At that time, you must have a 3.0 GPA to continue receiving HOPE. You will be able to raise your GPA as you work toward the 30 credit hours.
Q: What happens if I fail a class?
A: If the course is a graduation requirement, you must return to your high school to complete all or a portion of the class not fulfilled through your course work at Kennesaw State University. If you pre-register for a KSU class that requires the course you failed as a pre-requisite, you must drop the class during the Drop/Add period
Q: What do I do to remain at KSU next year?
A: You will need to complete a readmission form. We will provide information about readmitting as a freshman at your advising session.
