POLS 1101/ 20

Professor McKelvey

Supplemental Instruction Program: Kennesaw is beginning a pioneer program in Supplemental Instruction. Mr. Jeremy Maxwell will be conducting weekly sessions to help supplement the lectures and help students learn effective note taking and test preparation skills. He will attend each class and he received an A+ in this class and will be able to guide study groups.

Sample 2

SI Sessions: ____________, will be the Supplemental Instruction Leader for Math ______ this semester. ______ will offer two SI/help sessions each week. I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to receive additional help with course concepts. Research shows that students who attend the SI sessions consistently score higher on tests. You can earn up to 10 bonus points for attending SI sessions. You earn one bonus point for each SI session that you attend. These points can be used to replace on quiz grade.

Sample 3

SI Sessions: ________________ will be the Supplemental Instruction Leader for _____________ this semester. _____________ will offer two or three SI/help sessions each week. I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to receive additional help with the course concepts, study skills and test preparation. Research shows that students who attend the SI sessions consistently score higher on tests.

Sample 4

Kennesaw offers students the Supplemental Instruction as an added resource to help them get the best grade they can possibly earn in this class. ______________ will be your SI leader this semester and will conduct weekly review sessions to help supplement the lectures and help students go over the material, learn effective note taking and improve test preparation skills. Your leader will attend each class and since h/she received an A in this class he/she will be able to effectively guide your SI group. SI is not a re-lecturing of the material and is not intended to replace the lecture. In fact, it assumes that students have done the lecture and other assignments that have been given. Students who attend SI sessions and major review tend to do better in the course and attribute much of their success to the help and strategies the program provides.

Other Professors are:

•  Posting announcements on Web CT Vista about SI sessions.

•  Allowing SI sessions to follow immediately after labs in a convenient location and at a suitable time.
