Sophomore-Year
Experience
Peer Leaders:
Peer Leaders’ are
paid through a departmental student assistantship budget and their duties
during the Experiential Phase include:
• Attending classes with the instructor on a weekly basis to provide
a “seasoned” student perspective to campus culture and lead
community-building activities
• Providing an extra support structure beyond and apart from the instructor
and fellow KSU 1101 students by being available outside the classroom
and class time
• Meeting regularly with the KSU 1101 instructor to coordinate their involvement
• Meeting with the program director at the beginning, middle, and end of
the semester
Students who participate in the Peer Leader program benefit in several
ways:
• Leadership training: Students can continue to build on this training
through the Center for Student Leadership’s “Leaders in Kennesaw” (LINK)
program and earn a Leadership certificate.
•
Faculty mentorship: Students are able to develop a close relationship
with a faculty member and gain a perspective of a course from the “other
side” (especially beneficial for students considering teaching as
a profession). Faculty will also be trained to be mentors.
•
Institutional accolade: Students are officially recognized for their service
during KSU’s First-Year Student Convocation.
