SPOTLIGHT 2009Checking Image Resolution
YOUR SUBMISSION IMAGES: Clarity and the ability to see detail is important to the reviewers of your images. Your submissions should have a sufficient resolution as long as the smallest pixel dimension is 1,536 or greater. This resolution allows viewers the ability to zoom in for viewing details. Digital cameras with a 3 MP (mega-pixels) or higher capture resolution are capable of this pixel dimension requirement.
ABOUT IMAGE RESOLUTION: Think of your image resolution as the measure of pixels (across and down) that make up your image. If you are unsure of the resolution of your images, you can look it up on your computer with Windows Paint (installed with Windows XP or higher), Photoshop, or Preview (on Mac). In the sample below, the image size window shows the pixel width and height.

The above image shows the “Image Size” window where you can check your image’s pixel dimensions. Ignore the "resolution" field in Photoshop. (This image's resolution is sufficient for the submission requirement because the smallest dimension is greater than 1536 px.)

The free Windows application, “Paint,” also allows one to see the pixel dimensions of the image. (This image's resolution is sufficient for the submission requirement because the smallest dimension is greater than 1536 px.)
