We in the Department of Visual Arts are committed to the personal, individual, and artistic development of students through the celebration and nurture of artistic creativity and innovation. We are committed to the value of self-discipline and the achievement of both individual and collective goals in the visual arts that enhance the quality of life and shape the aesthetic consciousness of our community.

Our goals are to assist students in the acquisition of a broad understanding of the visual arts and to recognize art quality in their own personal expressions as well as in the work of others; to provide direct experiences in the visual arts for students, faculty, and the community through quality art exhibitions, lectures, and publications; and to provide professional training for individuals seeking careers in the visual arts.

As one of the cornerstones of the College of the Arts, the Department of Visual Arts offers a B.F.A. Degree with concentrations in graphic communication, drawing and painting, ceramics and sculpture, photography and printmaking, as well as a B.S. Degree in Art Education. An M.A.T. in Teaching Art will be offered in 2009.

We currently have over 500 declared majors in visual arts programs. Our faculty consists of 19 members, both full-time and part-time. Currently we have 64 visual arts courses listed in the undergraduate catalog. Our department has accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Art and Design. Our new award-winning Visual Arts Building provides 32,000-square-feet of studio and classroom space with state-of-the-art equipment.

The department has a nationally recognized exhibition program with two campus galleries and a permanent collection of over 200 works of art. Our sculpture-on-the-grounds collection is the largest of any in the Georgia university system. Our Visual Resource Center provides faculty with teaching resources.
