Accomplished with many art awards in the Metro Atlanta and North Georgia area, Shane McDonald is recognized as an artist, art instructor and designer. His painting, Morning Mist at Rabun Gap (30 x 40 in. oil), was acquired by the Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art in 2003 through a purchase award for Metro Montage III. He has since exhibited at the Museum many times, including several of the past Metro-Montage exhibitions. More recently, he received first-place recognition for his painting of the Big Chicken at the Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art’s first annual Plein Air Paint Out. Shane is also a proud member of the Board of Trustees to the Museum and has been engaged in various fundraising projects with the Museum, including the 2011 and 2012 Art & Design Show House.
Shane has served as a juror for several metro-area art festivals and visual arts organizations. He has maintained his own studio, first in Kennesaw and now in Marietta, since 1999. He has also taught for-credit foundation courses in drawing and computer applications at Kennesaw State University’s School of Art and Design, and he is currently employed there learning more about digital technology in visual arts.
Shane’s knowledge of illusion-creating tools and methods, along with his interest in developing a commercial audience for his fine art painting led him to both portraiture and murals. He has created both portraits and murals in private and public spaces. These public spaces include Georgia's educational facilities where he was a "Partner In Education," as he realizes the importance of art education and that the act of creating is an inspiration for our young people.
Shane's interest in painting started in childhood. He later completed a Bachelor of Arts degree specializing in graphic design and illustration at Kennesaw State University, which provided a strong foundation for a career in art. Shane worked as a full-time illustrator and graphic designer, and now uses this knowledge to market his own business and the School of Art and Design events at Kennesaw State University.
