Research consortium leads to opportunities for Kennesaw State students
In March of this year, Kennesaw State University joined the Oak Ridge Associated Universities, a consortium of more than 170 universities that collaborate on research initiatives, share resources, and help place students in federal research opportunities at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee. Junior chemistry major Miriam Raggs is spending this summer conducting research at Oak Ridge, through the lab’s Research Student Internship (RSI) program, thanks in part to this association but also thanks to her research mentor, Assistant Professor of Chemistry Madalynn Marshall.

Mechatronics engineering student uses AI-powered system to keep waterways clean
It is estimated that up to 23 million metric tons of plastic enter waterways each year, according to the United Nations Environment Programme. While harmful materials continue to plague governments around the world, a Kennesaw State University student is developing an artificial intelligence-powered system to detect litter before it reaches the ocean. Mechatronics engineering student Saam Grami is creating a system that detects, classifies, and tracks floating litter in rivers.

Kennesaw State professors use NSF grant to strengthen semiconductor education through interactive learning
As the United States works to strengthen its semiconductor industry, Kennesaw State University researchers are helping prepare the next generation of engineers. Through a National Science Foundation-funded project, they are using interactive visualizations to make one of electrical engineering's most challenging subjects easier for students to understand.

Greece study abroad challenges KSU students to tell stories of the past with bones
In a small village on the island of Crete, just southeast of mainland Greece, anthropology major Jess Drilling learned to identify signs of osteoarthritis in skeletal remains, helping piece together the stories of people who walked the earth centuries ago. Drilling is one of four Kennesaw State University students who spent part of their summer at an archaeological research center, studying human skeletal remains dating from the fifth to seventh centuries to uncover clues about how people lived, what they ate, and the injuries and illnesses they experienced.
