September 15, 2022 Vaccine Update

What You Need to Know About COVID-19 Vaccines and Boosters

  • CDC recommends everyone stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccination, including all primary series doses and boosters for their age group:
    • Ages 5 years and older should get all primary series doses, and updated COVID-19 boosters if eligible
  • Getting a COVID-19 vaccine after you recover from COVID-19 infection provides added protection against COVID-19
  • People who are moderately or severely immunocompromised have different recommendations for COVID-19 vaccines, including boosters
  • For people ages 12 years and older, the only authorized mRNA booster is the updated (bivalent) booster
    • People ages 12 years and older can no longer get the original (monovalent) mRNA booster
  • COVID-19 vaccine and booster recommendations may be updated as CDC continues to monitor the latest data

The vaccines are a critical tool to help "Protect the Nest," and we strongly encourage everyone to take this step to advance the health and safety of our campus community. If you have additional questions after reviewing the FAQ, email vaccine@kennesaw.edu.

Previous Updates

  • The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has authorized that people ages 12 years and older who are moderately or severely immunocompromised can choose to receive a first booster/fourth dose of an mRNA vaccine to increase their protection against severe disease from COVID-19. The following populations are eligible to receive a second booster:

Individuals 50 years of age or older who received their first booster/fourth dose at least 4 months ago
Individuals 12 years of age or older who are moderately or severely immunocompromised, and received their first booster/fourth dose at least 4 months ago
Individuals 18 years of age or older who received 2 doses of J&J/Janssen vaccine at least 4 months ago

KSU is administering the second booster for students and employees.

A first booster dose is recommended for all individuals age 18 years and older at least six months after receiving their second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine. Individuals 18 years and older who received the J&J vaccine are encouraged to receive a booster dose at least two months after receiving the initial dose.

J&J and Moderna are currently out of stock at KSU; therefore, Pfizer is primarily being administered on campus at this time. The FDA and CDC have also authorized “mix and match” booster doses, which means you may receive a Pfizer booster dose on campus, regardless of which vaccine type you received originally.

If you would like to receive a Pfizer booster, please visit the Student Health Services clinic located at 3215 Campus Loop Road, Monday through Friday between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM. Walk-ins are welcome; no appointment is needed through Friday, August 12. Beginning Monday, August 15, please call Student Health Services at 470-578-6644 to schedule an appointment.

Please bring your KSU ID, insurance card and Vaccination Record Card with you. Without these documents, you will not be able to receive your booster.
