Military Times has recognized Kennesaw State University as one of the nation’s top schools for veterans in its 2024 Best for Vets: Colleges rankings. The annual Military Times list spotlights the top colleges and universities for military service members and veterans. The 2024 ranking reflects Kennesaw State’s commitment to providing resources and opportunities to the university’s more than 2,000 military-connected students, including nearly 600 veterans.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently reported that obesity was prevalent in more than 40 percent in U.S. adults. To combat this, Kennesaw State University assistant professor Liang Zhao aims to use artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to explore health determinants that lead to obesity in rural areas. Zhao’s research, supported by a $51,747 National Institutes of Health (NIH) AIM-AHEAD grant, examines the social determinants of health, or SDOH.

Taking the next step in changing the way diabetics monitor glucose levels, Kennesaw State University assistant professor Maria Valero has been awarded a Georgia Research Alliance (GRA) grant to continue her innovative GlucoCheck project. The project looks to modify glucose monitoring for the millions affected by diabetes by offering a noninvasive alternative for blood sugar tests.

Claudia Garavis Montagut doesn’t waste time. At just 19 years old, the international student from Colombia has completed an undergraduate research fellowship, gained international field research experience, led the university Model United Nations as its president, and enrolled in the KSU Journey Honors College. She has also been named a President’s Parliament Scholar Ambassador, serves as a Radow College Ambassador, is a Double Owl pursuing both bachelor’s and master’s degrees simultaneously, and serves as a campus tour guide.

The word is out about Kennesaw State University’s Department of Physics, and Matthew Garwacke heard it loud and clear. The junior physics major transferred to KSU last year for the opportunity to conduct research with renowned physics researcher Marco Guzzi, and then took on a prestigious research opportunity over the summer – the latest step in his journey.

When Jeff Chassner saw the potential for two of his biggest passions to connect, he was all in to see them through to a perfect partnership. Those passions are his alma mater Kennesaw State University and his employer New Realm Brewing Co. The partnership between the two has resulted in KSU’s first licensed beer – OWL IN, American Lager, launched just in time for the start of fall semester.
