New scholarship the culmination of Kennesaw State alumni family success

Tanasia Kenney has plenty of childhood memories at Kennesaw State University. Her mother, former KSU employee Jacqueline Hand, frequently brought her to campus, where she was known as “Jackie’s daughter,” and became familiar with staff and faculty. Now a reporter for McClatchy news publications, Kenney is just one member of a KSU alumni family.

Kennesaw State honors former administrator Harris Travis with new exhibit

Excited gasps punctuated a Saturday afternoon in Kennesaw State University’s Engineering Technology Center as a crowd gathered around the unveiling of a new, permanent exhibit honoring the late Rev. Harris Travis. The unveiling took place during the second annual Hornets Homecoming, an event hosted by the Southern Polytechnic State University (SPSU) Alumni Society honoring those who graduated from Southern Polytechnic State University.

Kennesaw State receives Insight Into Diversity 2024 Alumni Association Inclusive Excellence Award

Kennesaw State University’s Alumni Association received the 2024 Alumni Association Inclusive Excellence Award from Insight Into Diversity magazine, the largest and oldest diversity and inclusion publication in higher education. The Alumni Award honors alumni associations’ programs, culture, and initiatives that encourage and support diversity, inclusion and a sense of belonging for all alumni.

Kennesaw State alumna returns to campus as nursing faculty member

While working as a substance use disorder counselor at Ridgeview Hospital, Lisa Reyes-Walsh’s supervisor told her, “You know, you’re a nurse through and through.” That reset the course for Reyes-Walsh’s life, though she never fully left counseling behind. She earned a bachelor’s in nursing from Kennesaw State University in 2011, and, now an assistant professor of nursing in KSU’s Wellstar School of Nursing, Reyes-Walsh has applied her knowledge of substance use disorder and ability as a counselor to educate nurses who can care for patients struggling with substance use issues.

Radow College of Humanities and Social Sciences’ School of Conflict Management, Peacebuilding and Development (SCMPD) graduated two Ph.Ds. who are committed to working toward a more peaceful, even more loving, world. Graduates Isaac Andakian, Ph.D., and Nashay Lowe, Ph.D. are ready to apply their conflict management and peacebuilding expertise to shape a more harmonious future.

Kennesaw State management graduate aims to climb to the top of their sport

With a slight scowl, Mary Tankersley solemnly stares at a rock wall at Stone Summit climbing gym in Kennesaw planning a route to the top, tracing the hand and footholds with their eyes. After a few minutes, Tankersley stands up, chalks their hands, claps off the excess and walks to the base of the wall, peering up. Soon, they defy gravity, climbing the wall swiftly by swinging gracefully from one colorful rock to the next. It’s easy to forget – for onlookers and Tankersley both – that the graduating Kennesaw State University senior has only one leg.

Kennesaw State graduate encourages women to join the construction industry

Graduating Kennesaw State University student Temi Aladegbemi said her career choice was inspired by what caught her eyes outside car windows while growing up. Kennesaw State was the first university Aladegbemi visited for a tour, and from the moment she arrived on the Marietta Campus, she knew her place was in the College of Architecture and Construction Management. A first-generation college student graduating on Dec. 12, Aladegbemi has been active in campus activities from her earliest days at KSU.

New graduate found service through theater at Kennesaw State

As a teenager, Issa Solís found a community in the world of theater. At Kennesaw State University, she connected with the concept of immersive storytelling, telling her own story and helping others tell theirs. Solís will graduate this week with a bachelor’s in theatre and performance studies, as well as a slew of experiences in building community through theater.

Kennesaw State programs help alumnus grow app that rewards students

Juggling school, extracurricular activities and earning spending money will be easier for students as a new phone application developed by a Kennesaw State University alumnus allows them to focus on learning while earning gift cards for good grades. The app, Schoolconomy, was inspired by the personal experiences of KSU alumnus Regnault Drake Sanders, who didn’t have a job while attending Luella High School in Locust Grove, Ga. and saw during college how working negatively affected his classroom performance.
