    Sports broadcasting executive Brandon Howell, a 1995 graduate of Kennesaw State University, didn’t know how many problems he could juggle until the past year. As it turns out, it’s a lot. In 2020, Howell and his colleagues at Atlanta-based Fox Sports South and Fox Sports Southeast were already dealing with wholesale change. The networks were sold in the late summer of 2019, and a transition away from the Fox brand was underway. Then a once-in-a-century pandemic hit.

    A moment of clarity during an intro-level accounting class nearly 30 years ago started Aaron Gagnon on a journey that has taken the Kennesaw State University alumnus around the globe and led him to become the top internal auditor for Apple, the world’s largest technology company. Gagnon, Apple’s chief audit executive, earned his accounting degree from Kennesaw State in 1994. He returned to campus this week from his home in Austin, Texas to speak with students in the Master of Accounting program about careers in the industry and the role Kennesaw State has played in his success.

    KSU alum named a top screenwriter to watch in 2021

    While he was vice president of research and development at a Marietta medical device company, Michael Lipoma was rewriting his life’s script when he enrolled in Kennesaw State University’s Master of Arts in Professional Writing (MAPW) program in 2005. The KSU education, along with experience he gained as both a writer and producer since graduation has paid off for Lipoma. The International Screenwriters Association named him to its “Top 25 Screenwriters to Watch in 2021” list.

    Nearly 2,900 fall graduates earning degrees from Kennesaw State

    Kennesaw State will have its first class of graduates as Georgia’s second-largest university when nearly 2,900 students receive their degrees this month. The December 2020 class is composed of 2,890 graduation candidates – 2,427 undergraduate and 463 graduate students. That marks an increase from KSU’s more than 2,600 graduates last fall.

    Kennesaw State graduate thrives in film industry

    In a Savannah movie theater 22 years ago, a 4-year-old girl sat, entranced, watching the blockbuster Titanic with her mother. It was an event that would make a lasting impression on her life and career. “It was the first movie I sat through and watched the whole thing – and it was a long movie – not saying a single word,” said Katie Boaen, now working in the prop and set decorating departments of Georgia’s thriving film industry. “I was captivated by it at that age – the scale of everything coming together; I remember it to this day.” Boaen is “a huge movie buff” who has always liked storytelling and mixing it with art. She graduated from the Joel A. Katz Music and Entertainment Business Program at Kennesaw State University in 2018. Her end goal was to turn a hobby into a profession and earn some income in the process.
