    Information Technology Department Leverages Grants to Eliminate Textbook Costs

    Bucking the trend of rising textbook costs, one Kennesaw State University department is nearing completion on an effort to save students an estimated $1.3 million by converting course material to open educational resources through the support of Affording Learning Georgia (ALG) grants. Kennesaw State’s Department of Information Technology recently received three awards totaling more than $50,000 from round 18 of the ALG program, a University System of Georgia initiative which promotes alternatives to expensive textbooks.

    Kennesaw State students partner with state government to grow music industry

    The state of Georgia is looking to strengthen its position in the music business, hoping for a repeat of the success still enjoyed by the film and television industries. To that end, they recently partnered with Kennesaw State University to develop a statewide database of musicians and related professionals that will help productions locate Georgia talent. Earlier this year the Georgia Department of Economic Development asked Kennesaw State’s Joel A. Katz Music and Entertainment Business (MEBUS) program to create a directory of the roughly 20,000 Georgians working in various capacities within the music industry. The recently launched directory includes artists, venues, studios, managers, marketing firms, attorneys and schools.

    Doctoral student aims to leverage data analytics degree to advance U.S. Army

    November 11, 2020

    Lt. Col. Trent Geisler’s military career has led him across the globe as he did everything from commanding dive teams in Southwest Asia to teaching at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Now a second-year student in Kennesaw State University’s Ph.D. in Analytics and Data Science program, his main directive is to earn his degree with the intent to apply his studies within the Army thereafter. Upon graduation, he will once again join the faculty at West Point to guide future generations of commissioned officers in data science.

    Scholarship Endowment Established in Honor of Late KSU Alumnus

    Allen Brooks can recall the first time he met the late Kennesaw State University alumnus John Boyko on the way to his usual fishing spot. At the time, Boyko was a freshman business student at Kennesaw State working part time at a local bait shop, allowing the two to build a friendship over their common interests. By the time Boyko entered his junior year, he would receive an invitation to complete an internship at Kennesaw-based company ServIT, where Brooks served as president, and ultimately blossomed into whom Brooks said was the company’s “first marketing genius.”
