Accomplished Kennesaw State University student Artis Trice again has earned national recognition, receiving a $10,000 scholarship from Taco Bell toward pursuing his passion of solving food insecurity in Atlanta. Trice, a geography major and Honors student from Ellenwood, was one of only 66 students chosen from 11,000 applicants nationwide to receive one of the scholarships. Taco Bell is awarding a total of $3 million in scholarships, and Trice won the second-highest amount of $10,000 for the Foundation Live Más Scholarship.

Their official ceremony may be postponed, but more than 3,500 Kennesaw State University students are graduating this week. The May 2020 class of 3,512 graduate candidates – 2,893 undergraduate and 619 graduate students – marks an increase from last spring’s 3,400 graduates. The students are earning their degrees and receiving their diplomas after KSU transitioned to fully remote learning midway through the semester because of the coronavirus outbreak, which also caused the May Commencement ceremonies to be postponed.

Kennesaw State University broke ground today on a new Academic Learning Center, a student-focused, 143,000-square-foot building that will feature 20 classrooms, six seminar rooms, a multi-purpose lecture hall, and computer and other specialized labs. Located at the center of the Kennesaw Campus, the ALC is expected to be completed by October 2021.

Kennesaw State will graduate over 2,600 students over five ceremonies held on Tuesday, Dec. 17, and Wednesday, Dec. 18 in the KSU Convocation Center on the Kennesaw Campus.

Kennesaw State alumnus and nuclear safety expert Charles Casto, who led the U.S. government’s response to the 2011 Fukushima nuclear accident in Japan, will discuss leadership principles during a lecture on campus on September 23.

For the second time in school history, a Kennesaw State University student has received the prestigious Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship, given annually to highly qualified students planning to pursue careers as scientists, mathematicians or engineers. Biya Haile, a sophomore Honors College student studying mechanical engineering, was among the 496 college students to receive the award this year.

Kennesaw State University has named Phaedra Corso as vice president for research, effective Feb. 4. Corso currently serves as the director of the Economic Evaluation Research Group in the College of Public Health and the associate director of the Owens Institute for Behavioral Research at the University of Georgia.

More than 2,600 students will graduate next week during Kennesaw State University’s fall Commencement. KSU alumnus and donor Mickey Dunn will address students at the final of five Commencement ceremonies.
