KINDERGARTNERS ARE STARTING THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR with bright eyes and big ideas. They’ve had their screenings for vision and hearing, but there’s one screening that hasn’t had the same attention. One more screening should be added to that list, says Nora Schlesinger, a Kennesaw State researcher and literacy educator. That is dyslexia, a learning disorder that involves difficulty in processing individual sounds, making letter sound connections, and learning to read.

Kennesaw State University has named Phaedra Corso as vice president for research, effective Feb. 4. Corso currently serves as the director of the Economic Evaluation Research Group in the College of Public Health and the associate director of the Owens Institute for Behavioral Research at the University of Georgia.

Following a nationwide search, Kennesaw State University has appointed Cynthia Reed as dean of the Bagwell College of Education, effective August 6. Reed comes to Kennesaw State from Northern Kentucky University, where she has been dean of the College of Education and Human Services since 2014. Reed succeeds Arlinda Eaton, who is retiring June 30 following 10 years as dean of the Bagwell College of Education.

College rankings are one measure of success for today’s universities, and Kennesaw State is no stranger to that notable recognition. In the past month, the University has been named in the top 10 in six different rankings, which have touted Kennesaw State for its online programs and dining services.

More than 3,100 students will graduate during Kennesaw State’s spring Commencement. The University’s six graduation ceremonies will be held in the KSU Convocation Center on the Kennesaw Campus, beginning Tuesday, May 8, at 10 a.m.

Kennesaw State University is being represented by nearly 100 students this week at the 2018 National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) in Edmond, Oklahoma. More than 4,000 students from 400 colleges and universities are presenting their research April 4-7 at the prestigious annual conference. With 93 students attending, Kennesaw State's number of participants is second only to the host institution, the University of Central Oklahoma.

Georgia Schools Superintendent Richard Woods and Cobb County School District Superintendent Chris Ragsdale are among inaugural inductees into the Bagwell College of Education Hall of Fame at Kennesaw State University. Seven education leaders were honored Thursday at a ceremony establishing the Bagwell College of Education Hall of Fame, recognizing KSU alumni who have made significant contributions in the education field. Along with Woods and Ragsdale, the first Hall of Fame class includes Tanya Curren, Susan Padgett-Harrison, Raquel Rimpola, Shea Thomas and Dean Yoder.

The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia has named the two committees responsible for conducting a national search for the next president of Kennesaw State University (KSU): The Presidential Search and Screen Committee and the Regents' Special Committee.
