Kennesaw State University has named Phaedra Corso as vice president for research, effective Feb. 4. Corso currently serves as the director of the Economic Evaluation Research Group in the College of Public Health and the associate director of the Owens Institute for Behavioral Research at the University of Georgia.

Kennesaw State University engineering student Danica Roberts has been selected for a competitive National Science Foundation Travel Grant, allowing her to attend the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Vehicular Networking Conference this week in Taipei, Taiwan.

For the third time in four years, Kennesaw State University’s Steel Bridge Student Competition Team earned a top-20 finish at the American Society of Civil Engineers/American Institute of Steel Construction’s Student Steel Bridge Competition. The team, composed of students from the University’s Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology, finished 18th overall in a field featuring universities from across the U.S., Mexico, Canada, China and Puerto Rico. The competition was held at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign on May 25-26.

Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded Kennesaw State University with a $69,183 People, Prosperity and the Planet (P3) grant. The grant will be used to develop a method of replacing power cables in aircrafts with wireless power transfer systems that are lighter and reduce the weight of the plane, which could reduce fuel consumption and improve air quality.

More than 3,100 students will graduate during Kennesaw State’s spring Commencement. The University’s six graduation ceremonies will be held in the KSU Convocation Center on the Kennesaw Campus, beginning Tuesday, May 8, at 10 a.m.

Kennesaw State University is being represented by nearly 100 students this week at the 2018 National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) in Edmond, Oklahoma. More than 4,000 students from 400 colleges and universities are presenting their research April 4-7 at the prestigious annual conference. With 93 students attending, Kennesaw State's number of participants is second only to the host institution, the University of Central Oklahoma.

Atlanta real estate executives Norman Radow, of The RADCO Companies, and Peter Fitzgerald, of Fightingtown Companies, have announced a $1 million donation to the Paul Radow Endowment, which provides annual scholarships to mechanical engineering students with military service or who are adult learners.

Kennesaw State University has received a $1.25 million donation from The Coca-Cola Foundation for the creation of a scholarship program supporting first-generation students. The Coca-Cola First Generation and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Scholars program will provide scholarships and wraparound services to 35 students who identify as first generation – those who are first in their immediate families to seek college degrees.
