Kennesaw State researcher earns NSF grant to study urban amphibians, create undergraduate research opportunities

A Kennesaw State University researcher recently earned a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant to study the evolution of salamanders’ behavioral habits in urban streams, which will in turn fund more undergraduate research opportunities for KSU students. Assistant professor of biology Todd Pierson has received a three-year, $380,238 grant from the NSF through a program called Building Research Capacity in Biology (BRC-BIO). The program is designed to broaden research participation at minority-serving universities and Carnegie-designated R2 institutions like KSU.

Kennesaw State researchers take big steps in obesity research with NIH grant

As our population continues to age, the need for accessible health solutions is more urgent than ever. A recent grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is supporting KSU faculty members, including principal investigator Bob Buresh and co-principal investigators Brian Kliszczewicz and Austin Brown, in investigating how walking can be a transformative and cost-effective approach to fighting obesity.

First-generation student follows physics curiosity to Kennesaw State

Equipped with an insatiable curiosity, Siam Sarower has set his sights on learning as much about his world as possible. In his pursuits, Sarower has landed himself on the President’s List, earned a Coca-Cola First-Generation Scholarship, and joined the KSU Journey Honors College. He credits his parents and older brother, now a civil engineer, for supporting his journey as one of the first in his family to seek a degree.

Early childhood experiences set KSU master's student on right path

An animal lover from a young age, Kerrigan Larkin found her calling long before enrolling at Kennesaw State University. During walks in Marietta’s Laurel Park with her grandmother, Larkin learned about the plants and animals she saw. She applied that knowledge first as an Honors biology major at KSU, and now as a second-year student in the Master of Science in Integrative Biology program.

Kennesaw State engineering professor appointed to Idaho National Laboratory

A Kennesaw State University professor has received a joint appointment with Idaho National Laboratory (INL), a collaboration that will enhance engineering research within the Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology (SPCEET). This partnership will also offer engineering and engineering technology students valuable hands-on experience and the chance to study applied engineering in nuclear applications. Aaron Adams, associate professor of mechanical engineering technology and assistant department chair, is the first KSU professor to earn this appointment.

Kennesaw State's FUTRA Lab tackles traffic congestion and emissions with AI solutions

Much like ants working together in a colony, Kennesaw State University researchers envision a future where driverless cars coordinate seamlessly with one another to enhance traffic flow, reduce congestion, and minimize emissions. Mahyar Amirgholy, an assistant professor in the Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology and research affiliate in Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory’s Energy Analysis and Environmental Impacts Division, is engaged in a broad spectrum of projects aimed at improving transportation efficiency and sustainability through advanced technologies.

The annual Military Times list spotlights the top colleges and universities for military service members and veterans.
