Military Transfer Credit at KSU

Military Transfer Credit may be awarded to undergraduate students accepted to Kennesaw State University in Fall 2012 or later that have served in the U.S. Military and who desire to have their military training and experience considered for transfer credit. There is no limit to the number of military transfer credit hours that may be awarded. However, only credit applicable to the student’s current degree program will count toward degree completion. The student must satisfy all graduation requirements, including institutional residency requirements. Military transfer credit does not satisfy institutional residency requirements and is not included in the calculation of the graduation GPA. Students must submit official JST transcripts and the Military Transfer Credit Agreement Form to the Office of the Registrar - Transfer Evaluation & Student Services.

Eligibility for Military Transfer Credits 

  • Military education and experience documented on an official Joint Services Transcript (JST) will be evaluated for applicability to the student’s current degree program.
  • Students should submit their official JST before the end of the add/drop period of their first term to support accurate academic advisement and the determination of financial aid eligibility.

  • Once credit has been awarded, it cannot be removed due to the amount of transfer credit determining Financial Aid eligibility, including both federal and state aid.

  • Military Transfer Credit Agreements submitted and/or requested after the last day of drop/add during the student's first term of enrollment at KSU will be denied.

  • Per federal guidelines, the deadline for transfer credit to be accepted is after the last day of drop/add therefore KSU's deadline is in place to ensure compliance with federal and state guidelines.

  • Acceptance of Military Credit toward a student's degree program may affect financial aid eligibility. Questions regarding financial aid eligibility should be forwarded to a financial aid representative in the Office of Student Financial Aid.

Military Credit and Degree Requirements

Students will follow the degree requirements as listed below:

  • Complete a minimum of thirty (30) semester hours in residence at KSU (Coles College of Business requires thirty-three (33) hours.

  • Twenty-four (24) of the thirty (30) residence hours must be upper-division major requirements.

  • The remaining residency requirement of twenty (20) of the last thirty (30) hours preceding graduation will be waived.

  • Complete all other degree requirements.

How to Request Transfer Credit

  • Student completes the Military Transfer Credit Agreement Form.

  • Completed form is reviewed by Office of the Registrar - Transfer Evaluation & Student Services

  • Once required documents have been submitted and student has been accepted to KSU, the evaluation team will grant credit for any course or experience that might be applicable towards the program that is being pursued. 

  • Once a decision has been made, it cannot be reversed due to the amount of transfer credit determining financial aid eligibility, including both federal and state aid.
