President Kathy S. Schwaig

Kathy ‘Kat’ Schwaig became the sixth president of Kennesaw State University in 2022, after serving as interim president in 2021. Under her leadership, KSU launched the “Taking Flight” strategic plan, the FLIGHT student success program, and dozens of new academic programs. 

Under her leadership, KSU has made significant investments in academic and research infrastructure, increased external research awards by 81%, doubled research expenditures, and boosted annual fundraising by more than 300%.

Schwaig also led KSU’s move to Conference USA and relaunched HatchBridge, a business incubator. With 24 years at KSU, she has held roles such as provost and dean of the Coles College of Business.
