Kennesaw State president, provost lead Honors course on leadership

It’s not every day that students get the opportunity to take a class with the two highest ranking administrators on campus. However, Kennesaw State University President Kathy S. Schwaig and Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Ivan Pulinkala are redefining what it means to be a university leader. This semester, they led HON2400, an Honors Discovery course called “Cultivating Leadership Skills,” offering their expertise and wisdom to about two dozen students. Schwaig shared her personal leadership journey, and Pulinkala focused on the theoretical principles of leadership.

Kennesaw State honors inaugural Family of the Year

Recognizing the vital role families play in the lives of their college students, Kennesaw State University’s Division of Student Affairs (DSA) recently awarded the Banks family of Kennesaw the inaugural Family of the Year distinction. Following a monthlong nomination and review process, first-year anthropology student Julia Banks and her family were selected by DSA staff to be honored during Family Weekend.

Kennesaw State biology student studies links between soil and tree health

Olivia Walker grew up with a love of hiking in the woods, not realizing at the time she might be walking among endangered species of trees. After graduation from Dunwoody High School, she arrived as a freshman at Kennesaw State University with a strong interest in environmental science, where she was accepted into the First-Year Scholars Program to study longleaf pine forest ecosystems with biology professor Paula Jackson.

First-generation student follows physics curiosity to Kennesaw State

Equipped with an insatiable curiosity, Siam Sarower has set his sights on learning as much about his world as possible. In his pursuits, Sarower has landed himself on the President’s List, earned a Coca-Cola First-Generation Scholarship, and joined the KSU Journey Honors College. He credits his parents and older brother, now a civil engineer, for supporting his journey as one of the first in his family to seek a degree.

Limitless curiosity drives career of achievement for Kennesaw State undergraduate

Claudia Garavis Montagut doesn’t waste time. At just 19 years old, the international student from Colombia has completed an undergraduate research fellowship, gained international field research experience, led the university Model United Nations as its president, and enrolled in the KSU Journey Honors College. She has also been named a President’s Parliament Scholar Ambassador, serves as a Radow College Ambassador, is a Double Owl pursuing both bachelor’s and master’s degrees simultaneously, and serves as a campus tour guide.

Sometimes, Sarah Chang’s days started at 8 a.m. with a class and a lecture in the College of Science and Mathematics and ended at 11 p.m. with the sounds of her violin in a practice room at the Dr. Bobbie Bailey School of Music. Chang admitted at times the long days wore on her, but she has achieved the goal of her self-designed academic journey—bachelor’s degrees in biology and music performance from Kennesaw State University.

Freshman Kennesaw State student has unprecedented success in research

Most people know someone with a “go-getter” personality – that person who is energetic and determined to be successful. There might not be a person who better encompasses the idea of being a go-getter than Kennesaw State University student Tashin Kazi. While still a junior at Woodstock High School, he started emailing professors at Kennesaw State asking to join a research team. It was through that outreach that Kazi was connected to Maria Valero, an assistant professor of information technology in KSU’s College of Computing and Software Engineering (CCSE).
