Faculty at KSU value and prioritize affordable learning for KSU students.
Open Educational Resources (OER) are any type of educational materials that are in the public domain or introduced with an open license. The nature of these open materials means that anyone can legally and freely copy, use, adapt and re-share them, depending on the license. OER range from textbooks to curricula, syllabi, lecture notes, assignments, tests, projects, audio, video and animation, according to UNESCO.
Affordable Learning Georgia (ALG) is a USG initiative to promote student success by supporting the implementation of affordable alternatives to expensive commercial textbooks, particularly OER.

Open Educational Resources (OER) at Kennesaw State benefit both students and faculty members by reducing the cost of textbooks and enhancing course flexibility. Students can access essential materials at no cost, easing financial strain, while faculty can easily update and customize their courses with current KSU platforms. OER supports dynamic learning through their adaptability and the 5 R’s of Openness: Retain, Reuse, Revise, Remix, and Redistribute, making education more affordable and accessible.
Faculty in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences participated in an Affordability Pilot. Four faculty created syllabi and course schedules using open educational resources to create low and no cost courses that can be easily adapted by anyone, anywhere. The revised materials are linked below.

In addition, Kennesaw State University faculty and staff have been participating in Affordable Learning Georgia Textbook Transformation Grants since Spring 2015. The following materials are a direct result of the grants awarded to KSU faculty and staff over the years, which are now saving students an approximated $5,000,000 on course materials per year.
