Understanding Student Tuition Status Changes

Welcome to the Tuition Classification website. Here you will find information on how to change your tuition classification or if you qualify for an out-of-state tuition waiver. We also help students update their immigration status if it changes while they are enrolled.

All decisions are based on Board of Regent's Policy 4.3 Student Residency. Please review our FAQ page to find answers to the most common questions.

There are three tuition classifications per BOR policy:

  • Georgia Resident:
    • You are a US Citizen or eligible non-citizen status under Federal Student Aid Title IV regulations.
    • You meet the BOR Residency policy of being a Georgia resident. See Georgia Residency page for more details.
  • Homeless Status:
    • You are a US Citizen under the age of 24 who does not meet the Georgia domicile requirements but who is considered homeless and can provide documentation from CARE Services, a social worker, shelter, or high school counselor verifying that you are homeless.
  • You completed your high school education within the United States or a US territory.
  • You are a US Citizen or eligible non-citizen status under Federal Student Aid Title IV regulations who does not meet the BOR Residency policy
  • You are not a US Citizen or eligible non-citizen status under Federal Student Aid Title IV regulations.
  • You did not complete your high school education in the United States or a US territory.

How to Update Your Residency Status

  • If you have been classified as out-of-country or out-of-state and believe you meet the criteria to be classified as in-state, please email tuitionclassification@kennesaw.edu with your KSU number so we can review your case to know which route to take to be reclassified. It is important that you get directions from us first to avoid submitting incorrect documents.
