Word, Music, Memory Project Sunsets in June in New Jersey
June 11, 2025
June 2025 brings the five-year journey of the MHHE’s Words, Music, Memory project to a meaningful and celebratory culmination. Programming in partnership with The Lotus Project of Trenton will also provide a fitting tribute to the career of KSU’s composer-in-residence, Dr. Laurence Sherr. The first of its kind for the nationally acclaimed five-year-old Lotus Project of Trenton, this spring’s “Festival of Remembrance & Resilience: Commemorating Stories Through Music & Art” realizes curator Adina Langer’s vision for the Words, Music, Memory project by aligning it with a broader commemorative mission. Launched on May 7 with the arrival of the Words, Music, Memory exhibition in Trenton, the festival already included a unique iteration of the chamber concert which premiered in 2021 along with the exhibition opening at KSU. Leading up to a June 15 choral performance in advance of World Refugee Day, next week’s festivities will include a lecture/performance featuring Laurence Sherr discussing his composition “Fugitive Footsteps” and new original artwork by Alia Bensliman honoring the resilience of Trenton-area immigrants and refugees.
