My First Semester

Biology major loved KSU at first sight

The first semester of college is a time of tremendous transition for most students as they live on their own for the first time, adapt to more rigorous coursework and learn time management. In recognition of that, we are spotlighting students who have just completed their first semesters at Kennesaw State. Briahna Forrest, who is pursuing a degree in biology, shares in her own words what made her first semester at KSU so memorable.

My first semester at KSU has been so fun! I love being part of the Brand Ambassador team, as well as Freshman Parliament, which is an organization that helps freshmen get more involved by going on campus tours and assisting with open house.

I am currently a biology major on the pre-med track, and I am also pursuing a minor in Spanish. After completing my bachelor's at KSU, I want to go to medical school and then become an obstetrician.

When I went on a campus tour, it really made me fall in love with the campus because it is so beautiful and so spacious. It also has a great “homey” feel to it, which I felt when I visited during orientation.

I'm from Augusta and there is a good college there, too, but I chose KSU because I wanted to go far enough away to have my own experience but be able to come home at least once a month.

I was really surprised that even though KSU is the third-largest university in the state, I don't feel lost in the crowd. There are so many things to get involved with where you can find so many people with the same interests as you.

My favorite event so far has to be the Homecoming concert because, thanks to KSU Admissions, I was able to get a media pass and stand directly in front of the stage!

I love that KSU really takes care of their students. By that I mean the awesome housing, the food, the help finding job opportunities, and all of the free services such as career services, the recreation center, and the tutoring services.

Living on campus, especially for the first year, is so amazing because everything is so accessible, 24 hours a day. There's always a place to eat and events are easier to attend because you are right there.

I have only been to one football game and it was such a great experience. I do plan on going to different sporting events, as well as more football games in the future.

I am a member of the American Sign Language Club. I found out about it on Owl Life. We meet once a week and have a lot of events that have to do with our purpose of the club.

My favorite thing to do on campus is eat, honestly. I love the eating options here and the Commons is way better than I thought. I love the Apron Strings food station in the Commons. Their Southern homestyle cooking is very comforting and delicious.

Coming to KSU was the best decision I could have made and it's a great place to make a second home.
