  • Kennesaw State professor uses platform to encourage women in STEM

Paola Spoletini recalls stepping into her first engineering course at Politecnico di Milano in Italy as one of the only female students among a class of 100. Equipped with decades of research experience and a platform through which she can connect with the next generation of STEM scholars, Spoletini now plays an active role in encouraging other women to take their seat at the table. A professor of software engineering in Kennesaw State University’s College of Computing and Software Engineering, Spoletini said she recognized her own passion for STEM at an early age.  –  May 28, 2021

  • Kennesaw State's School of Data Science and Analytics offers opportunity for all levels of students

Kennesaw State University student Alyssa Venn considers herself an early adopter of data science. While working toward an bachelor’s degree in computational and applied mathematics, she picked up an undergraduate minor in applied statistics and analytics hoping to gain a bit of exposure in one of the nation’s fastest growing fields. At the time, she didn’t anticipate the amount of doors the minor program would open. Today, Venn is one of 4,200 students who are served at the undergraduate and graduate levels by the School of Data Science in Analytics.  –  May 26, 2021

  • Kennesaw State graduate selected for prestigious Harvard summer research program

Anjie Adeyemo wants to play a role in boosting the health of children and reducing infant deaths, an area she researched while studying at Kennesaw State University. She’s taking another step toward that goal as one of just 12 people selected for this year’s Harvard Summer Program in Biostatistics and Computational Biology.  –  May 25, 2021

  • Facing multiple major challenges, Kennesaw State alum turned to college lessons to succeed

Sports broadcasting executive Brandon Howell, a 1995 graduate of Kennesaw State University, didn’t know how many problems he could juggle until the past year. As it turns out, it’s a lot. In 2020, Howell and his colleagues at Atlanta-based Fox Sports South and Fox Sports Southeast were already dealing with wholesale change. The networks were sold in the late summer of 2019, and a transition away from the Fox brand was underway. Then a once-in-a-century pandemic hit.  –  May 24, 2021

  • Kennesaw State professor dedicated to diversity in education

Tristan Glenn had an “aha” moment during a demonstration of the Bagwell College of Education’s avatar laboratory. The lab utilizes mixed-reality technology to simulate scenarios teachers can encounter through interactions with digital avatars of students that all have their own unique personalities. Glenn, an associate professor of special education in the BCOE’s Department of Inclusive Education, participated in a simulated parent-teacher conference.  –  May 24, 2021

  • Postdoctoral researchers create opportunities for growth at Kennesaw State

Kennesaw State University is building its research muscle through the addition of postdoctoral researchers — non-faculty staff who work to advance the institution’s scientific investigation in a wide range of disciplines. Since 2020, Kennesaw State has added 10 postdoctoral researchers across five colleges, including several postdoctoral researchers who are the first for the departments and colleges they serve. It’s a natural part of KSU’s growth as a research university, according to Bill Diong, associate vice president for research.  –  May 21, 2021

  • Howard family finds worthy cause in helping Kennesaw State students

As an executive at Atlanta automotive giant Genuine Parts Company, Frank Howard’s awareness of Kennesaw State University grew when he began hiring its accounting and information technology graduates. Howard and his wife Melodie live in Kennesaw and have been actively giving back to the community for decades. A major part of that is the creation of the Frank and Melodie Howard Endowed Scholarship. It’s the first scholarship for Keeping Sights Upward (KSU) Journey Honors College based solely on the financial need of the recipient.  –  May 19, 2021

  • Kennesaw State undergraduate student pursues Ph.D. following internship with NASA

Kennesaw State University student Ryan Foster has long been fascinated with airplanes and rockets. His passion for aerospace engineering is what guided him to an internship at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) last fall, and is ultimately what led this undergraduate student to being accepted into a highly competitive Ph.D. program. However, his recent successes are just the latest in a long list of academic achievements at Kennesaw State. A standout in the Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology, Foster is graduating this month with a degree in mechanical engineering and a minor in aerospace engineering.  –  May 19, 2021
