Kennesaw State announces weekend closure related to winter storm

KENNESAW, Ga. | Jan 23, 2026

Kennesaw State University will close its campuses starting at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24 until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 25, in response to the widespread winter storm predicted to bring ice-related road hazards and power outages to metro Atlanta and surrounding areas this weekend.

For the area of Kennesaw State’s campuses, freezing rain is expected overnight Saturday, which could make roads impassable and cause widespread power outages, according to the National Weather Service office in Peachtree City.

Emergency management officials at the university are keeping students, faculty and staff informed of all operations changes through email and text updates until the effects of the storm have passed.

“KSU is closely monitoring the weather and will provide updates on campus operations through the KSU Emergency Email and Text Alert system and other KSU communication channels,” officials said in an email sent to the campus community. “To have the most up-to-date information from the National Weather Service, a decision about campus operations for Monday, Jan. 26, will not be made until Sunday, Jan. 25.”

Meanwhile, campus operations personnel have been preparing to salt sidewalks and respond to other issues such as power outages and burst water pipes.

On Friday, university officials provided students, faculty, and staff with information to be ready for the storm, including the following links.
