  • A Multidisciplinary Approach: This program balances managerial and technical aspects of cybersecurity, allowing graduates to choose to become security executives, or security engineers. Students will learn unique perspectives on cybersecurity including cybercrime and forensics, incident response and infrastructure security.
  • Industry Connections: We work closely with our industry partners to facilitate student internships, provide research and educational work products, and collaborate on information exchanges.   • Reputation for Excellence: KSU is a NSA/DHS National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education and took first place in the Southeast Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition in April 2020.
    • 12-month, 30 credit hour online degree program
    • Students with no background in cybersecurity must complete 3 foundation courses that are built into the 12-month program
    • All courses are scheduled in 7-week sessions allowing students to take two classes at a time, completing the program in 5 sessions
    • Mobile and Cloud Security: This course covers concepts, methodologies and technologies in securing mobile networks and cloud computing environments.
    • Management of Cybersecurity: This course will provide an overview of the roles and responsibilities associated with administration of a cybersecurity program including the role and composition of cybersecurity planning, development of cybersecurity policy, and the specification and conduct of an effective risk management program.
    • Capstone in Cybersecurity Management: The course covers the practical aspects of cybersecurity management and administration and the critical skills associated with interacting with the senior-executive and board-level constituencies.

    • Dr. Michael Whitman

      Dr. Michael Whitman

      Michael Whitman, Ph.D., CISM, CISSP is the Executive Director of the KSU Institute for Cybersecurity Workforce Development and a Professor of Information Security and Assurance.  Dr. Whitman has worked in higher education since 1991 and has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in Security since 1999. Dr. Whitman is the co-author of over a dozen Security-focused textbooks in over 24 editions including Principles of Information Security, Management of Information Security, and other titles published by Cengage Learning. He has published over 50 articles and made over 100 presentations on Security topics. He has received numerous awards for leadership and excellence in education, including the CISSE Educator of the Year in 2012. Dr. Whitman has been the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice, since he co-founded it in 2016.

      • Dr. Hossain Shahriar

        Dr. Hossain Shahriar

        Dr. Hossain Shahriar, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Information Technology and Director of Research and Graduate Education at Institute for Cyber Workforce Development. His current research interests include network and application security, data analytics, smart and connected health, and cybersecurity education. His research and teaching have been supported by NSF, NSERC, ALG and Suntrust Fellowship. He has published over 100 articles in journals, conferences and book chapters. He is currently an organizing member of IEEE Security, Trust and Privacy of Software and Application workshop, ACM Security of Information and Networking Conference, IEEE Smart and Connected Health Symposium and Editor-in-Chief of International Journal of Systems and Software Security and Protection.
