Kennesaw State researcher develops safer, faster solid-state battery design

The race is on to find safer alternatives to lithium-ion batteries, and a Kennesaw State University researcher is helping lead the way with a new materials approach that could make next-generation batteries more sustainable. Beibei Jiang, an assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, leads a research team developing a sulfur-modified solid electrolyte designed to improve how lithium ions move through solid-state batteries, increasing performance while reducing safety risks.

KSU researcher using VR to improve STEM education

Preethi Titu spent her adolescence preparing to become a doctor, but from a young age she knew she was more interested in teaching. She enjoyed standing at the front of the classroom teaching small topics to her peers and was praised by her teachers in high school for that skill. Ultimately, all students learn differently, and all teachers teach differently. Now, Titu is using advanced technology to equip future teachers with the skills needed to engage all learners in meaningful scientific discourse.

Researcher seeks to help robots have a more human touch

Robots are becoming smarter and more common, but their ability to handle objects with human-like precision remains limited. At Kennesaw State University, new research is enabling robots to better understand movement, touch, and real-world interactions. “My research focuses on dexterous manipulation,” said Lingfeng Tao, a Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering professor in Kennesaw State University’s Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology. “I want to control robot hands that are similar to the human hand, with multiple joints that can move independently and perform complex tasks.”
