Grant cuts costs for students in Kennesaw State's inclusive learning program

A new $25,000 grant from the Homer N. Allen Charitable Trust will provide scholarships for students in Kennesaw State University’s Academy for Inclusive Learning and Social Growth. The trust has now awarded the academy a total of $100,000 over the past four years.

Kennesaw State University is building its research muscle through the addition of postdoctoral researchers — non-faculty staff who work to advance the institution’s scientific investigation in a wide range of disciplines. Since 2020, Kennesaw State has added 10 postdoctoral researchers across five colleges, including several postdoctoral researchers who are the first for the departments and colleges they serve. It’s a natural part of KSU’s growth as a research university, according to Bill Diong, associate vice president for research.

KENNESAW, Ga. (May 14, 2021) — For Kennesaw State University nursing major Roberto Escobar, the iconic white lab coat is more than just an accoutrement. After earning his bachelor’s degree in nursing this week, he soon will don that coat, common among medical professionals, as an intensive care unit nurse at Redmond Regional Medical Center in Rome, Georgia. When he slips it over his shoulders on his first day at work, the former neurosurgery resident in his native Venezuela will return to the familiar environment of the medical field.

Every morning, Zach Bazemore’s commute takes him to the base of Allegiant Stadium, the NFL’s newest coliseum and state-of-the-art home to the Las Vegas Raiders. An operations coordinator at the stadium, Bazemore secured his position in the highly competitive sports industry immediately after graduating from Kennesaw State University with a sport management degree last year. The job grants him a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into the preparation for NFL games and other events hosted by stadiums nationwide. While it may seem routine, he said it tends to be anything but.

Exercise science professor discusses high-intensity exercise for diabetes patients

Kennesaw State University’s Office of Research is hosting a one-hour web show every other Friday at 4 p.m. to showcase the varied research being conducted by KSU faculty members. “Research with Relevance” spotlights Kennesaw State researchers in a live interview followed by an interactive question-and-answer session with the virtual audience. Brian Kliszczewicz, associate professor of exercise science in the Wellstar College of Health and Human Services, will be the guest on the April 2 show, presenting his research on the role of high-intensity exercise in Type-2 diabetes treatment and prevention. Before the presentation, Kliszczewicz answered a few questions about his interest in research and its benefits to students.

Kennesaw State University President Pamela Whitten and Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Kathy Schwaig have named Monica Swahn as dean of the Wellstar College of Health and Human Services, effective March 1.
