PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Department of Inclusive Education: 770-423-6577
Department Chair: Dr. Susan Brown - sbrown1@kennesaw.edu
Program Coordinator: Dr. Karen Kuhel - kkuhel@kennesaw.edu
This program was developed for individuals who do not have a teaching certificate. Candidates do not need to be employed, but it is preferable. This program prepares teachers to educate students who are learning English in inclusive environments where they have access to students who are native English speakers and to the state-approved curriculum, taught by teachers who are highly qualified in content areas. Thus, this program is transdisciplinary in nature and reflects research in Literacy and ESOL.
Please note that priority admission will be given to applicants already holding a "Provisional" Teaching Certificate. Applicants who hold an ESOL endorsement from KSU or another accredited college or university may elect to transfer up to nine hours of graduate credit.
The requirements for the MAT in TESOL may be met by completing the approved 48 semester hours of graduate course work, including preparing and presenting a professional portfolio.

Degree Requirements
The requirements for completion of an M.A.T. degree in TESOL includes:
1.an earned cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 in all graduate course
work at Kennesaw State University;
2.successful completion and presentation of a professional portfolio (See
SPED Portfolio Handbook).
Portfolio
A portfolio serves as a permanent record of the candidate’s individual
progress while working toward a Master of Arts in Education degree. The portfolio
encourages the Kennesaw State University candidate as learning facilitator
to implement a systematic, reflection-in action approach to problem solving
and decision making. The portfolio provides a detailed authentic picture
of the candidate’s professional practice and reflective analysis of the
integration of courses taken supported by theory and resource literature.
Changes in classroom practice as well as in oneself are documented. Impact
on student achievement is documented. Portfolio assignments are integrated
in each course syllabi. Candidates enroll in a capstone course to support
portfolio development and a presentation during the candidate’s final
semester of study. See the Portfolio Handbook for further information.
