KSU student Emily Espinoza is using her passion for people-centered design to shape the future of user experience at one of the world’s leading tech companies.
For Emily Espinoza, design has always been about more than aesthetics—it’s about impact. This summer, she’s bringing that mindset to one of the world’s most influential tech companies as a User Experience Design Intern at Google.
In her role, Emily is working on a cutting-edge project to develop a modern user review system that leverages AI to simplify and enhance the product review process. It’s a challenge that blends creativity, empathy, and innovation—skills she’s been honing throughout her time at Kennesaw State University.
“KSU’s volunteerism department changed the trajectory of my career,” Emily said. “I came here expecting to design beautiful interfaces, but after my first OwlServe day, I realized how much I loved solving real-world problems and connecting with people. That experience helped me discover a version of myself that wants to lead and make a difference.”
Emily’s journey hasn’t been without obstacles. She faced over 100 internship rejections before landing her role at Google. But through it all, she held onto a mindset that continues to guide her: “When there’s adversity, I choose to thrive in that chaos,” a piece of advice she credits to her Coca-Cola coach.
At KSU, Emily has developed more than just technical skills. She’s learned to embrace change, lead with purpose, and approach challenges with resilience. These life lessons, combined with her passion for inclusive design, are shaping her into a UX professional ready to make meaningful contributions.
Her advice to fellow Owls? “Continue to grow and embrace change. Resilience can make or break the opportunities you receive.... Keep showing up and be fearless.”
As she takes this next step in her career, Emily Espinoza is proving that persistence, purpose, and passion can open doors—even the ones at Google.
