Marsalis brings his passion for music and education to Kennesaw State for a transformative performance and learning experience.
Kennesaw State University’s Bailey School of Music will welcome Delfeayo Marsalis, one of the most influential figures in modern jazz and a National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Jazz Master, the nation’s highest honor for jazz musicians, for an evening of music at 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, in Morgan Concert Hall at the Bailey Performance Center.

A Grammy-winning producer, trombonist and composer, Marsalis has dedicated his prolific career to advancing music, theater and education. Known for his rich tone and innovative approach to jazz, Marsalis has performed with legendary artists including Art Blakey, Max Roach and Elvin Jones, and has produced more than 100 recordings for major jazz icons including his brothers Wynton and Branford Marsalis. Beyond the stage, Marsalis is deeply committed to nurturing young musicians, frequently engaging in educational initiatives and mentoring programs that inspire the next generation of jazz artists.
Joining Marsalis on stage will be KSU’s nationally acclaimed Jazz Ensemble I, under the direction of Sam Skelton, director of jazz studies at KSU. The ensemble has earned a reputation for excellence, performing at prestigious festivals and collaborating with world-class artists.
Skelton shared his excitement, “Performing with Delfeayo Marsalis is an extraordinary opportunity for our students and our audience. His artistry and commitment to education perfectly align with our mission to inspire and elevate through music.”
Known for their dynamic performances and exceptional musicianship, the ensemble will collaborate with Marsalis to deliver a program that celebrates the rich traditions and vibrant future of jazz.
