The Bernard A. Zuckerman Museum of Art’s (ZMA) exhibition Cloud Chamber opens on Tuesday, December 3 in the Mortin Gallery. A free reception will be held on Thursday, December 5, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and visitors will be treated to a curators' talk at 5 p.m., led by ZMA’s interim director and exhibition curator Ginger Wolfe-Suarez, Kennesaw State University Professor of Philosophy Stacy Keltner, and artist Jess Jones.

Cloud Chamber is a group exhibition of textile works by four women from the United States and Canada. Artists featured include Libs Elliott, Sabrina Gschwandtner, Jess Jones, and Amanda Ross-Ho. These artists explore collaboration, handcraft, and technology through exquisite tactile works.

What new narratives do these artists construct for the next generation? How can textile traditions spark innovation that span time and space?

Ross-Ho considers “the way we frame the long view, legacy work of artmaking, an acknowledgement and honoring of my own inheritances, framed within the idea of labor passed down through generations.” Other works connect formal histories of abstraction to digital technology through rigorous explorations in material culture.

Gschwandtner brings new perspectives to forgotten early film history, when women were often hired as film editors because of their sewing skills. She “recasts undervalued histories of women’s handcraft work, and connects the sphere of craft and concept in art.”

Elliott uses code-generated patterns to create geometrically abstracted quilts that question process and improvisation in the field of modern quilting. Georgia-based artist Jess Jones creates complex mapping systems on found textiles, thoughtfully reconsidering labor and re-use through complex formal and geographic shared spaces.

Cloud Chambers opens December 3 and will run through December 15. A free reception tour will be held on December 5, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Come early to catch the curators' talk at 5 p.m. For more information,  please visit arts.kennesaw.edu/zuckerman.
